A tragic incident in Mohave County resulted in the death of a 13-year-old girl following a crash involving an off-road vehicle on the evening of June 25. As reported by News 3 Las Vegas, the Mohave County Sheriff's Office said the accident occurred at around 7:55 p.m. in the remote Cane Beds area, with the Colorado City Fire Department responders confirming the fatality upon their arrival.
The initial investigation by officials has revealed a harrowing scene where two female juveniles were engaged in riding a side-by-side vehicle across a dirt field. According to details from the sheriff's office, the passenger was hanging out of the side of the vehicle as the driver performed donuts. A sharp maneuver led to the OHV overturning, subsequently landing on the passenger and inflicting fatal injuries. The absence of safety equipment being used by both juveniles at the time of the mishap was noted by the authorities.
The driver, finding herself in a desperate situation and unable to lift the vehicle off the passenger, was compelled to run approximately a quarter mile to seek help due to no cell service availability in the area. This harrowing detail was outlined by 8 News Now, which described the crash site's location as being around 165 miles east of Las Vegas on private property.
As the Mohave County Sheriff's Office continues its investigation into this regrettable accident, the case is expected to be forwarded to the Mohave County Attorney’s Office to assess the potential for criminal charges. “The case will be turned over to the Mohave County Attorney’s Office for review of possible charges,” officials stated, according to 8 News Now.
