New Yorkers might want to keep their umbrellas handy over the next few days, as the National Weather Service has forecasted a string of showers and possible thunderstorms across the five boroughs with varying chances of precipitation and slight differences in temperature. Manhattan could see highs nearing 87 today with a 30 percent chance of rain after 5 pm, while showers and thunderstorms are likelier post-sunset and into the night.

Similar conditions are expected in Brooklyn and Queens, with high temperatures slightly cooler, around the mid-80s and the chance of rainfall pegged at 30 percent.

Over in The Bronx, the likelihood of showers and storms comes after 2 pm on Saturday, accompanied by mostly cloudy skies and highs dipping to around 79, the skies then are expected to clear up somewhat as Saturday gives way to evening, though showers remain likely before 8pm.

Residents of Staten Island are looking at a high near 78 on Saturday with a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms and showers especially in the afternoon, while nighttime may bring some reprieve before likelihood of showers picks up again.

Furthermore, all boroughs can expect somewhat similar weather on Sunday, all with a 30 percent chance of rain after 2pm, highs trend in the upper 70s, and by Sunday night, rain chances increase to 50 percent. The start of the week doesn't promise much of a break, either as "Mostly cloudy" seems to be the common theme Monday through Tuesday, with daytime highs remaining consistently in the mid-70s.

However, the good news arrives midweek when conditions begin to clear up, "Mostly sunny" skies return Wednesday, with highs expected to reach into the low 80s for most areas, the forecast suggests New Yorkers might finally enjoy clear nights as well, with lows sitting comfortably in the mid-60s. This stretch of pleasant weather is slated to continue through Thursday, promising sunnier skies and highs climbing into the mid-80s, seemingly a welcome reward after days of navigating rain-drenched streets and unpredictable thunderstorms.

For those concerned about severe weather, the Hazardous Weather Outlook indicates that no significant hazardous weather is expected during this period, providing further reassurance that while the week may start wet and thundery, serious weather threats seem low. Nevertheless, New Yorkers are always encouraged to stay updated with the latest forecasts and be prepared for sudden weather changes as they take on the week ahead.
