Roads less traveled, yet vital to the daily dance of local lives, are set for a transformation in Union County. With a substantial $3.3 million deal inked in April, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is launching a pavement refresh over more than 11 miles of secondary roads. According to NCDOT's announcement, True Rock Construction, LLC won the bid and will be responsible for mending the thoroughfares by next fall.
Among the routes set to receive a makeover, Brief Road from the fringe of Mecklenburg County to U.S. 601 promises to provide a smoother commute. Likewise, Howey Bottoms Road is on the list stretching between Lawyers and West Duncan roads, as is Mill Grove Road from N.C. 218 to Lawyers Road. Drivers can anticipate fewer bumps on West Duncan Road between Howey Bottoms and Garret roads, and North Main Street is slated for upgrades between Wilson Street and the Wingate city limits. Lastly, Hasty Road will see improvements from West Main Street to White Store Road, as per NCDOT.
Investments in infrastructure, particularly those off the beaten path, are critical for maintaining safety, fostering community connectivity, and facilitating economic growth. Scheduled to be completed by autumn of next year, the project is not just about laying asphalt. It's about reaffirming the steady, unseen heartbeats of our communities.
