The town of Wake Forest is gearing up for its annual Independence Day Celebration, set for July 3 and July 4, with activities that cater to the entire family. The event, consistently popular among residents, is proudly entering its 52nd year. In a statement obtained by the official Wake Forest website, the event is said to promise "two days' worth of free fun and excitement."
Commencing on July 3, festivities kick off with the Fireworks Spectacular at Heritage High School's Husky Stadium, located at 1150 Forestville Road. Attendees can enter the gates starting at 5:30 p.m., and the program begins shortly after at 6 p.m. In accordance to the Town's regulations, there are certain restrictions in place – no glass, alcohol, pets, smoking, tents, stakes, or shade structures are permitted on school grounds.
Providing musical entertainment for the evening, The Ray Band, previously known as The Nigel Experience, is set to perform right after the starting time. With an 8-piece lineup, the band brings a vibrant mix of R&B, Motown, Beach, Rock, and current hits to the stage. A fireworks display, described as "unforgettable" and lasting roughly 20 minutes, is anticipated to light the sky around 9:30 p.m, as per the Town of Wake Forest.
Throughout the event, a plethora of food and dessert trucks will be present, offering an eclectic mix of cuisines ranging from Southern fare to Maine Lobster. An extensive list including Goodness GraceUs, Big B’s Southern Kitchen, and Cousins Maine Lobster can be found on the Town's website, where visitors can also access the menus a week before the event. Ample parking will be available in designated areas, although organizers stress parking is prohibited along Forestville Road and Foundation Drive, urging those attending to consider carpooling due to the expected high turnout.
The celebration continues the following day with the Children's Parade, sponsored by Wake Forest Community Partners. It begins with a lineup at 10 a.m. at North Main Street and West Juniper Avenue. Participation is free, though young cyclists are encouraged to wear helmets for safety. The Wake Forest Police will be on hand to manage traffic and support participant safety. Further activities include free arts and crafts and cupcake decorating at Holding Park, with the Wake Forest Woman's Club hosting the event. The Fire Department will also offer complimentary hotdogs, chips, and soft drinks.
Support for the Independence Day Celebration comes from a commendable array of sponsors, noted for their generous contributions. Among them, Capital Chevrolet, Wildberry Pediatric Dentistry, Brightspeed Fiber Internet, and the Hope Lutheran Church. A complete list of sponsors and event details can be accessed through the Town of Wake Forest's official announcement.
