As the warm rays of the Texas sun start to brightly cascade and summer activities briskly ramp up, the City of White Settlement is reminding pet owners of a crucial civic duty: annual pet licensing. The local government and the Protection and Welfare Service (PAWS) are not just suggesting, but enforcing this rule as a necessary step to ensure the safety and quick recovery of wayward furry friends.
In a social media blast from the City of White Settlement, the authority was quick to emphasize that licensed pets stand a significantly better chance of being swiftly reunited with their owners if they were to get lost. "Having your pet licensed allows PAWS to instantly identify the pet and contact the owner quickly, leading to a much higher percentage of reunited pets versus those who aren’t licensed," noted the City's Facebook post. Licenses help ensure that pets, when found, aren't stuck in shelters, instead of returning to roam their familiar yards and cozy homes.
Securing a license for those four-legged family members is touted as an easy task. Owners merely need to present their pet’s current rabies vaccination certificate, which should have been administered in the last year, and pay a fee of $10 at the PAWS facility. The process operates not only as a safeguard for lost pet scenarios but also serves as a public health function. It maintains a check on the pet population against the threats posed by rabies.
