Residents in southern and eastern Wisconsin are advised to take precautions as the air quality dips into the unhealthy category, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has issued an Air Quality Advisory across the region impacting places from Montello to Kenosha, including Milwaukee, as smoke continues to cloud over the area, according to a report by NWS Milwaukee.
The advisory, which flags rising PM2.5 levels, is expected to remain in effect until noon Thursday; those with respiratory conditions such as asthma, as well as individuals with heart disease, are especially at risk and should stay indoors if symptoms present themselves, while others are encouraged to shorten outdoor activities and seek shelter if symptoms arise, "Sensitive groups: Consider rescheduling or moving all activities inside. Go inside if you have symptoms," the NWS advisory warns, residents should prepare for possible air quality fluctuations even though improvements are anticipated post-noon Wednesday as cleaner air moves in from the northwest.
The current forecast for Milwaukee promises patchy smoke throughout early today with fog clearing by 8 am, leading to a mostly sunny day with highs around 70, but calm northeast winds offer little relief from the lingering haze, as reported by NWS Milwaukee, heading into the weekend, partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies predominate, along with mild temperatures hovering in the low 70s and 50s overnight.
As we head closer to the weekend, tomorrow and Saturday hold a slight respite with partly sunny skies, but the region isn't in the clear yet, threats of showers and thunderstorms build starting Sunday afternoon, carrying a hefty 80% chance of precipitation with potential thunderstorms through early Monday, and while "spotter activation will not be needed the remainder of the week," the weather outlook on NWS suggests a continued pattern of unsettled weather with slight chances for thunderstorms well into next week.
