Early this morning, Seattle became the backdrop for another instance of gun violence when reports emerged of a young man being shot after a large party in North Seattle devolved into chaos. According to a Seattle Police Department blog post, the incident occurred in the 4200 block of 12th Avenue Northeast, for which the authorities arrived around 2:30 a.m. to find evidence of a shooting, but no victim in immediate sight.
It was determined that as the revelry of youth gave way to the night's darker impulses, an altercation escalated, shots were fired, and attendees, presumed to be in their late teens to early twenties, were forced to navigate a dangerous web of gunfire as they fled the scene. Police discovered blood and multiple shell casings at the location, they also noted property damage caused by the discharge of firearms, yet the quandary of the vanishing victim persisted until the wounded party made their own way to Harborview Medical Center, arriving in stable condition with an arm injury, elucidating part of the night's mystery.
Details regarding the circumstances that led to the shooting remain scarce as the investigation is ongoing. Seattle police detectives and members of the Gun Violence Reduction Unit are tirelessly processing the crime scene and conducting interviews in the hope that clarity might emerge from the senseless act of violence that has marked yet another Seattle neighborhood. The victim, a 22-year-old man whose identity has not been released, is currently receiving care, and his injury is not thought to be life-threatening.
