There's been a sharp disruption in the supply chain for ground beef enthusiasts. Ada Valley Meat Company, hailing from Ada, Michigan, has initiated a recall of approximately 1,065 pounds of fully cooked frozen ground beef, citing a concern for public health. The recall comes after a consumer complaint about metal pieces found in the product.
The recalled ground beef was packed on two separate dates, May 28 and May 30, 2025. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, these products include 20-lb. cardboard box cases containing four 5-lb. plastic bags with either lot code 35156 or lot code 35157.
For those concerned about specific identifying details, the packaging bears the establishment number "EST. 10031" within the USDA mark of inspection. This potentially contaminated beef has been shipped to various establishments and distributors across states, including California, Delaware, Illinois, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
The potential hazard was flagged after Ada Valley Meat Company itself raised the alarm with FSIS following a complaint received. "The problem was discovered after the firm notified FSIS that it received a consumer complaint reporting that pieces of metal were found in the product," as reported by the FSIS. No injuries linked to the issue have been confirmed to date.
Institutions with these ground beef products in their freezers should not serve them. Both FSIS and Ada Valley are advising that these products should be either discarded or returned to the place of purchase. Customers with additional questions can reach out directly to Gerrit Rozeboom, President of Ada Valley Gourmet Foods, at [email protected], or voice their food safety concerns via the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 or [email protected].
