Early Monday morning, an AutoZone store in South Los Angeles' Historic South-Central neighborhood was hit by looters following a street takeover event. According to KTLA, Los Angeles Police Department officers arrived at the scene around 1:15 a.m., responding to a reported burglary at the store located near West Vernon Avenue and Main Street. The front doors were found ajar, glass shattered, and both merchandise and debris lay strewn inside and outside the establishment.
As indicated by FOX LA, the break-in at 4335 S. Main Street and Vernon Avenue's AutoZone followed closely on the heels of an earlier street takeover. Investigators are looking into the incident after discovering the store in a state of disarray, with an abundance of glass and scattered car parts. No arrests or injuries have been reported yet and the LAPD has begun reviewing video footage in hopes of identifying the perpetrators.
Adding to the scene's details, NBC Los Angeles noted that prior incidents of similar nature have occurred in the area. Notably, another AutoZone in Vermont Vista was targeted twice, apparently in connection with street takeovers as well. "There were easily dozens involved in the incident," one neighbor recounted in the NBC Los Angeles coverage.
