Following a series of shootings in the Western District of Baltimore, authorities have made key arrests that may bring some respite to the community affected by gun violence. The Baltimore Police Department has charged 21-year-old Michael Reed and 46-year-old Wesley Spencer with attempted first-degree murder in two separate incidents, as reported by the Baltimore Police Department.

Reed and Spencer's arrest stem from a shootout that took place last Tuesday, on the 1200 block of West North Avenue, following the ShotSpotter alert officers responded to at approximately 9:20 p.m. Arriving at the scene, the ShotSpotter alert had indicated gunfire, they found Spencer with a gunshot wound, who was later transported to a hospital and treated. Investigators apprehended him last Wednesday, upon his discharge, according to the official release obtained by the Baltimore Police Department.

The search for the second suspect, Michael Reed, concluded on Tuesday when Regional Auto Theft TaskForce officers arrested him in the 8800 block of Loch Raven Boulevard. Reid's connection to another shooting, which injured a 45-year-old male last Thursday, was uncovered by detectives during their investigation. The victim in this second shooting had sought treatment at an area hospital, which had been preceded by another ShotSpotter alert earlier that day, prompting an inquiry by Western District Shooting Detectives.
