For a second year in a row, Baltimore's aquatic enthusiasts will have to hang up their swim caps, as the much-anticipated Harbor Splash is officially off the calendar, with the Waterfront Partnership citing recent stormy weather as the reason. Despite the hopeful sign-ups of more than 200 would-be swimmers eager to dive into the Inner Harbor, the organization, in a statement obtained by WMAR2 News, announced the decision "due to the lingering impacts of Wednesday's storms and additional rainfall overnight," emphasizing that this cancellation prioritizes participant safety above all else.
Originally slated for a sunny June 21 dunk, this year's Harbor Splash met its first downfall to adverse weather, leading to a postponed date now dashed by even more inclement conditions, the Waterfront Partnership was forced to cancel the original Harbor Splash in June and had to cancel it again both times decisions were out of caution to ensure no one dove headfirst into danger.
While hopes for a makeup date might bob along in the minds of the disappointed, the Partnership has already made it clear: there will be no rescheduling, according to a WBAL-TV report.
