The Oversight Committee's ongoing probe into President Biden's handling of classified documents and potential cover-up of his cognitive decline hit another milestone as Annie Tomasini, former Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Oval Office Operations, invoked the Fifth Amendment during her deposition. Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) expressed his disappointment with Tomasini's refusal to answer questions on key issues relating to the president's health and the management of sensitive information.

According to a statement posted on the House Oversight Committee website, Tomasini pleaded the Fifth when pressed about whether she was instructed to lie about President Biden's health, her advisory role on the handling of classified documents found at Biden's residence, and any conspiracy to hide Biden family business dealings. Comer's frustration was evident as he highlighted this as the third witness to avoid self-incrimination in the committee's investigation.

"It's unbelievable that Ms. Tomasini and others refuse to answer basic questions about President Biden’s fitness to serve," Comer stated, per the House Oversight Committee website. Further commenting on the need for transparency, he added, "There needs to be transparency and accountability, and we will continue to pursue the truth and examine options to get the answers we need." These remarks underscore the committee's intention to persist with their inquiry into the allegations surrounding Biden and his aides.

Last year's reports alleged that senior aides, including Tomasini, Anthony Bernal, and Ashley Williams, formed a "protective bubble" around President Biden. The intention, as the reports suggested, was to shield the truth about his condition. When subpoenaed, the Biden White House blocked their testimony, raising more questions about the administration's transparency. The Committee also sought information from Dr. Kevin O'Connor, who, along with Bernal, pleaded the Fifth on matters related to the alleged cover-up of Biden's health, according to the statement obtained by the House Oversight Committee.
