Last Friday night, a Breeze Airways flight from Las Vegas to Norfolk was diverted to Charleston International Airport due to weather. The aircraft, flight MX509, an Airbus A220-300, landed around 9:30 p.m. and was preparing to refuel when it was struck by a taxiing ANA Boeing 787-10. Minor injuries were assessed at the scene, according to 13 News Now.
As passengers deplaned, first responders arrived at the scene. Breeze Airways stated that "all Guests have safely deplaned, and emergency response teams are evaluating a few Guests for minor injuries." The airline also arranged a recovery flight: "A recovery flight is scheduled to depart CHS at approximately 1:20 a.m. ET to safely deliver our Guests to ORF on a new aircraft as we work with authorities to determine the cause of the incident," the airline said in a statement to 8 News Now.
A recovery flight landed in Norfolk at around 2:50 a.m. last Saturday, safely transporting all passengers from the earlier Breeze Airways flight involved in a ground incident at Charleston. The Breeze aircraft was clipped by an ANA plane while on the tarmac, resulting in minor injuries. Breeze Airways stated it is working with authorities to investigate the cause. Charleston International Airport and Joint Base Charleston have not released public updates.
