The tragic loss of a young life has left the Bronx community reeling after a 16-year-old girl, identified as Aliyah Williams, was fatally stabbed in a local deli. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon, just before 4 p.m., at a store located on Boston Road and Mickle Avenue, as reported by Gothamist. Williams was found with multiple stab wounds including injuries to her head and body. Despite being rushed to Jacobi Hospital, she tragically succumbed to her wounds.
Details surrounding the altercation that led to Williams's death remain unclear. Authorities are still investigating whether the teen knew her assailant, who is reportedly still at large and was last seen wearing a black shirt and black pants. Felony assaults in the area have seen a noticeable increase, with the 47th Precinct reporting a 25% rise in such serious attacks that could leave individuals with permanent injuries.
Rose Anderson, Williams' grandmother, expressed her shock and grief at the scene, recounting to CBS News the limited information she had received about the incident. "Only thing I heard that two girls walked her down to the smoke shop, they have a confrontation and they stab her," Anderson said. She fondly remembered her granddaughter as "a nice person, she has manners, she listens to her parents and she goes to school."
Residents in the Bronx spoke out about their disbelief and fear after the stabbing. "I never saw anything like that happen here. I been here for almost two years," one woman told CBS News, while a man highlighted the proximity to local children, stating, "It's scary, man, 'cause there's kids down the block, there's kids at the school down the block. So, you know, even though school is out, man, it's scary 'cause there's a lot of kids going back and forth here." The tight-knit community is now coming to grips with the harsh reality of a future cut far too short and the void left by Williams' untimely passing.
The NYPD is actively seeking any information that may lead to the arrest of the individual responsible for Williams' death. A call to action has been made for anyone with knowledge about the situation to come forward.
