A 41-year-old man was fatally shot in a drive-by incident last Saturday morning in a Queens neighborhood, according to authorities. ABC 7 New York reports the shooting occurred around 8 a.m. in Jamaica, Queens, prompting concern among residents.
The victim, identified as a Brooklyn resident, was shot in the chest just feet from a nearby home as gunfire broke out. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Witnesses recalled the sudden sound of gunshots. "It was like 'pew pew pew' -- it was multiple. It sounded just like that," Ty Simpson told ABC 7 New York, saying he was still in bed during the shooting.
As shared by NBC New York, the investigation is ongoing with few details about the events leading up to the deadly incident currently available. The NYPD responded promptly to a call at 8:12 a.m. on Liverpool Avenue, where the deceased was found.
Community members expressed concerns about the rising number of rowdy house parties in the area, fearing they may be linked to the recent unrest. Residents, including Paul Messam, pointed to the presence of shell casings scattered across their yards and emphasized the fact that children live in the neighborhood. "We have kids and stuff around -- we don't really want this kind of thing, you know?" Messam pointed out in a statement obtained by ABC 7 New York.
No suspect has been named at this point. Details surrounding the events that led to the fatal shooting remain unclear, but the investigation is ongoing.
