Customs and Border Protection officers at the Donna International Bridge hit a major drug bust this week, seizing over $803,000 worth of methamphetamine. The hefty haul was intercepted at the Progreso/Donna Port of Entry, highlighting the ongoing battle against drug trafficking across our border, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

In the swelter of mid-summer, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's vigilance didn't waver, nor did the flow of travelers. Amidst this routine bustle, a 26-year-old Mexican citizen found his journey abruptly halted. "As summer travel traffic remains steady, our frontline CBP officers continued to apply their vigilance, experience and technology, resulting in this significant methamphetamine interception," Port Director Michael Martinez said, in a statement obtained by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The bust went down on July 22 when the suspect, behind the wheel of a 2008 Saturn Vue, was pulled over for secondary screening. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, along with the aide of canine units and nonintrusive inspection systems, discovered 84 packages of what they've identified as methamphetamine. The drugs weighed in at an approximate 89.90 pounds.

The drugs seized were worth about $803,692 on the street. Both the drugs and the vehicle were taken right away. The driver was arrested by Homeland Security Investigations agents, who have started a criminal investigation, as per the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
