The National Weather Service has issued a clear outlook with no immediate hazardous weather expected today in Charlotte, N.C.; however, a steep climb in temperatures is anticipated with heat index values reaching a sweltering range between 100 to 109 degrees in the coming days.
Today's weather is playing it cool with a partly cloudy sky and a high near 96 — but don't let that fool you, as the heat index could soar up to 104, and such conditions are only the beginning, because as we look forward, the forecast predicts that starting Saturday through next Thursday, each afternoon will bring with it a sizzling combination of sunny skies and high temperatures that could make the pavement itself seem like a stovetop.
Tonight, the city should expect mostly clear skies and a mild breeze, granting some respite with temperatures lowering to around 76, this short break will be fleeting, as weekend forecasts show a relentless escalation in heat, particularly on Sunday where temperatures may reach an apex near 100 degrees, plus a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms rolling in post 3 pm.
Going forward into the week, there are chances of precipitation with sporadic occurrences of showers and thunderstorms; these are expected to be short-lived and will offer scant relief from the heat which has the public eyeing the weather with the kind of caution one might reserve for the delicate dance of approaching an open flame, not willing to get too close lest they get singed.
The National Weather Service's Hazardous Weather Outlook also extends a warning regarding the high heat index, which poses increased risks of heat-related illnesses; hence, residents are advised to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours — and while emergency weather spotters can stand down for now, they should remain alert in case conditions evolve.
