Those in the Columbus and Cincinnati areas, prepare for a mixed bag of weather today, courtesy of a cold front sweeping through the region. According to the National Weather Service, we can expect showers and thunderstorms until the front moves through later in the day. Although temperatures are dialing down to the low to middle 80s, the Southern and Southeastern parts of the region might experience an isolated strong to severe storm, with the primary threat being damaging winds.
While the rains should cease by Tuesday evening, leftover low-level moisture lingering in the air, particularly near and southeast of Interstate 71, may pave the way for patchy fog as cited by the National Weather Service. Forecasters suggest this might be dense, particularly in the river valleys, leading into Wednesday. Transitioning into Wednesday, anticipate a cooler climate with temperatures hovering in the familiar band of the low to middle 80s and dewpoints in the comfortable 60s.
Looking further ahead of the week, a surface high pressure over the Mississippi Valley is expected to influence weather conditions, as reported by the National Weather Service. This pattern will stir a gradation in temperature towards the warmer side of the spectrum as the week progresses towards the weekend. It's seemingly good news for sun-seekers as the forecast predicts general dryness during this period, with precipitation chances too negligible to fret over. By Saturday, though, highs might just touch the lower 90s.
The situation for next Sunday and early into the week following is a tad uncertain, with the possibility of the ridge breaking down a bit. "Chances for thunderstorms look perhaps a little higher for Sunday and Monday, but confidence remains low in any specifics," according to the long-term forecast by the National Weather Service. And although stormy weather could become a feature of our skies again, organized convection or significant hazards seem to be off the cards for now. Yet, for those looking forward to more heat, temperatures are projected to remain on the toastier side with the expectation of the lower 90s on Sunday before a slight drop on Monday.
