As the city of Columbus gears up for its annual Red, White & BOOM Festivities, a different kind of boom is happening on the streets. The Columbus Division of Police announced on social media the kickoff of "Operation Turn Up the Heat," a focused effort to apprehend suspects wanted for a variety of violent crimes. With the operation launching just in time for the Independence Day celebrations, the police are seeking the public's help in locating the individuals on their most wanted list.
According to a social media post from the Columbus Division of Police, this year's iteration of Operation Turn Up the Heat aims to make a dent in the crime rate by zeroing in on suspects involved in violent offenses. A range of mugshots have been released in tandem with a call to action, inviting anyone with information on these pictured suspects to aid in their capture by getting in touch with the police at (614) 645-4545 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-TIPS. The post, which went live at exactly midnight, marks the first day of the operation.
The initiative is not a new concept for the Columbus Division of Police, which has previously implemented similar operations. The timing ahead of major public events, such as Red, White & BOOM. It is strategic, intended to ensure greater safety during periods when large crowds are expected. The operation serves as both a deterrent to potential criminals and a reassurance to the community that law enforcement is proactive in maintaining public order.
