
Columbus authorities have released the identity of the 17-year-old boy who was fatally shot last Friday at a party in the Southern Orchards neighborhood. The teen has been identified as Cameron Moore. he was one of six people injured during the incident, which took place at a short-term rental house, according to ABC6.
Police reported that more than 100 attendees, mainly teenagers, were present at what has been described as a "pop-up" party where the shooting occurred around 2:40 a.m., creating chaos as individuals scrambled for safety, The Columbus Dispatch highlighted the story, including that police arrived on the scene before the shooting started when Moore and two others were found with gunshot wounds by responding medics, and three additional victims arrived at local hospitals by their own means.
One neighbor, Rodney Riley, indicated the bedlam of the scene, saying, "It was chaotic. Kids running everywhere. Jumping fences and cars pulling off," his direct experience underscored as his 19-year-old daughter was in attendance; though unharmed, he was faced with the grave situation of providing aid to the fatally wounded Moore, stating "I wouldn't want anyone to feel that emotion," in a sentiment shared with ABC6.
Community reaction to the shooting has been one of grief and determination, with Malissa Thomas-St. Clair, founder of Mothers of Murdered Columbus Children, acknowledged the emotional toll such events take on the community and offered support to Moore's family, saying, "The community is going to wrap their arms around you and try their best to get help, for your justice."
