A Detroit man faces charges after an incident where his younger brother was shot with an unsecured gun in their home. Earlier this week, Geris Edward Gordon's 18-year-old brother and a 13-year-old neighbor discovered the unsecured weapon, leading to the accidental discharge that caused the injury, as reported by Audacy's WWJ Newsradio.
Charged with firearms safe storage violations, this case underscores the importance of secure gun storage in homes with minors present. Responding to the incident, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy stated, "I am again asking gun owners to safely store their weapons inside their homes - or wherever they have their weapons. This is not a hard ask and compliance is very simple," as noted by CBS Detroit. Geris Edward Gordon could now face a maximum five-year sentence if convicted.
Gordon, 26, was arraigned in 36th District Court, where he was awarded a $25,000 personal bond. The proceedings with the Preliminary Examination scheduled for August 1, while a Probable Cause Conference is on the docket for July 25, as per the Detroit Police Department's social media post.
