A 17-year-old boy is in critical condition after being shot in the head yesterday, in what residents describe as an all too common occurrence on Detroit's east side. The shooting took place in the vicinity of Saint Aubin and Lafayette streets, as reported by CBS News Detroit. Authorities arrived at the scene shortly after 4 p.m., according to the same report.
Witnesses describe the area, frequented by children, as having gone from disquiet to disaster in a matter of moments. Destiny Brown, a resident, conveyed her fear to CBS News Detroit, "They have swimming pools, they have their bikes out here, and they're riding around playing while stuff like this can happen at any moment. And it's terrifying." The victim was quickly transported to the hospital and, per Detroit Police Commander Jevon Johnson, is "fighting for his life."
The site of the incident is a designated "Green Light" location, signifying it is monitored by strategically placed cameras. The Detroit Police Department hopes the footage will assist in the ongoing investigation. Nevertheless, they have yet to release details on a suspect or the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
