A series of shootings in Durham has left a 17-year-old dead and two men hospitalized, one of them with life-threatening injuries, according to local authorities. The CBS 17 reported that early Thursday on the 1800 block of Holloway Street, Durham police found a man shot on the road. He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a 12:45 a.m. call to the police. This incident occurred just hours after another shooting on Sherwood Drive.
At the scene on Sherwood Drive, officers discovered a gravely injured adult male and were later informed that a teenager had also been shot. The 17-year-old was transported to the hospital by a private vehicle and succumbed to his injuries. WRAL notes that the shooting resulted in several unoccupied cars and apartments also being struck by gunfire, with police presence spanning nearly nine hours into the following morning.
Durham Police Department has indicated that no arrests have been made in either cases, and they believe the shootings to be unrelated. The investigations into these incidents are ongoing, with the department dedicating considerable resources to address the spate of violence. As families and the community grapple with the loss and ramifications of these events, the need for answers and justice remains acute.
The impact of the shootings extends to the physical damage in the vicinity as well. ABC11 reported that several apartments and cars were presumably struck by gunfire, indicating the potential for more victims and illustrating the random nature of the violence.
