After nearly eight months, 31-year-old Clyde T. T. Loa, who escaped from the Hawaiʻi Community Correctional Center's Hale Nani Facility, has been captured. Authorities confirmed on Monday that he was arrested in the Ainaloa subdivision of Pāhoa. According to the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Loa faces charges including second-degree escape and first-degree theft.

Loa was returned to custody after a months-long search by the Hawaiʻi County Police Department. The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation acknowledged the police for their efforts in locating and arresting him. Loa and two other inmates, classified under community custody, the lowest security level, went missing in December 2024.

An escape from Hale Nani included the theft of an employee’s vehicle, which was later found in the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision, where 36-year-old Joseph C. Fernandez was arrested on December 18, 2024. A month later, 41-year-old Kawai J. Pomroy was captured in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Loa, the last escapee to be caught, now faces charges of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, habitual property crime, and two counts related to probation violations, as reported by the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
