A fatal vehicle accident in Sampson County claimed the life of Jose Angel Jimenez-Lopes, age 30, local authorities reported. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene of the single-vehicle collision, which occurred around 12:55 a.m. yesterday on U.S. Highway 701 near Cedar Point Road, just over 2 miles from Newton Grove. Upon their arrival, troopers discovered the man ejected from his 2015 Dodge Charger following a high-speed rollover crash, as stated on the CBS17 website.
The investigation revealed that Jimenez-Lopes was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when he apparently lost control of the vehicle. The Dodge Charger veered off the road, struck a ditch, and tumbled several times in a soybean field. As pointed out by the WRAL report, the absence of a seatbelt significantly increased his risk of ejection from the vehicle during the crash.
According to the CBS17, Jimenez-Lopes was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers investigating the crash emphasized that both the excessive speed at which Jimenez-Lopes was traveling and his failure to wear a seatbelt were major contributing factors to the fatality.
Speed is frequently a critical factor in roadway accidents, a fact underscored by the tragic results of this incident. The importance of seatbelt use cannot be overstated, as per investigators; they stated, "failure to wear a seatbelt" was directly involved in the driver's ejection from the vehicle, a detail also reported by the JoCo report.
