In the wake of the devastating floods that swept through the Texas Hill Country, the City of Fort Worth has come forward to offer a space for communal mourning and solidarity. Mayor Mattie Parker, along with the city officials, has organized a candlelight vigil at City Hall to be held next Monday, July 14 at 7 p.m., inviting the community at large to stand in support of the flood victims and their families, as per the information provided on the official City of Fort Worth website.
This event is open to everyone, an opportunity for individuals touched by the tragedy to gather and find comfort amongst fellow residents, leaders, and representatives of different faiths; Mayor Parker's faith cabinet members will also be present, and the assembly will be greeted with green ribbons and candles upon arrival, setting a tone of remembrance and resilience, in a statement obtained by City News, it is made clear that during the vigil, the attendees will also have the chance to contribute to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund and to donate essential supplies through the efforts of the Fort Worth Police and Fire Departments on behalf of the Salvation Army.
The vigil's location is set at 100 Fort Worth Trail, with the gathering starting at 7 p.m. and the program scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Among those leading the vigil are Mayor Mattie Parker, Pastor Chris Freeland of the Doxology Bible Church, Assistant Chief Ray Hill of the Fort Worth Fire Department, Interim Chief Robert Alldredge of the Fort Worth Police Department, with musical tributes by Grady Spencer and pastoral care provided by Chaplain Cliff Weaver from the Fire Department, according to the information from the City News.
