A Glen Burnie mother, Tiffany Lynee Carr, has been sentenced to ten years in the Division of Corrections following a guilty plea for 1st Degree Child Abuse resulting in the death of her two-year-old daughter, Nevaeh. According to the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office, Carr, aged 35, received a term of 25 years, with all but 10 years suspended, and will serve a subsequent five years of supervised probation.
According to Anne Arundel County's news release, during the hearing, State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess lamented the absence of any courtroom advocates for the young girl, stating, "To say this is a tragedy is an understatement. Sadly, not a single person was in the courtroom today to speak on behalf of this child because there was no one else she could count on other than her mother." After calling 911, Carr performed CPR on her daughter and administered two shots of Narcan. The actions of Carr were described as reckless and inexcusable by Leitess, who noted the mother's "total disregard for the safety of her toddler."
The devastating events unfolded on August 17, 2024, when Anne Arundel County Police responded to a report of an unresponsive child on Winding Road in Glen Burnie. Nevaeh was found face down on a futon with EMS crews unsuccessfully attempting resuscitation. A homemade smoking device and drug capsules containing Fentanyl were discovered near the scene, highlighting the hazardous environment the child was subjected to.
During the investigation, Carr admitted to her addiction, disclosing to detectives that she had used heroin that morning and smoked crack cocaine on the day of her daughter's death. A sleeping mother and a toddler's life ended too soon. Authorities determined that Nevaeh ingested Fentanyl sometime between noon and her discovery at 7:15 pm. The cause of death was confirmed as narcotic (fentanyl) intoxication by investigators. Led by the Anne Arundel County Police Department, the case prosecution was handled by Assistant State’s Attorneys Anastasia Prigge and Casey Marson.
