A Guatemalan man has been designated for deportation after a judge's ruling, this following an incident in April where he climbed a tree to elude U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The man, identified as Raul Ical, defied authority during a traffic stop before seeking refuge in the arboreal confines of a San Antonio neighborhood, KSAT reported.
Operating under the thrall of necessity, it was on South Navidad and Hazel streets where Ical, after fleeing his vehicle during a traffic stop, climbed and remained perched for over six hours, as KSAT photojournalists captured Ical making his arboreal last stand. ICE agents and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers saturated the area, framing the scene that unfolded beneath the shade of that tree.
Complications borne from the realms of legality attended Ical's situation. Previously deported in 2013, Ical's reentrance into the United States marked a violation, drawing the sharp gaze of law enforcement. According to the records detailed in a MSN report, Ical was also arrested last year on a DWI charge, contributing to the layers of his legal predicament.
Even as negotiators labored to coax him down, it is the time served, stretching across three months, that became the crucible for the judge's decision to grant Ical release to ICE agents to commence deportation proceedings. "Raul Ical, who had already spent three months in jail, was given time served and was released to ICE agents to start deportation proceedings," MSN detailed, painting the sober canvas of consequence for the man who, from within the foliage, pondered his immediate future.
Now facing his second removal to Guatemala, the process for Ical transitions from a fence of branches to the structured pathways of ICE's deportation protocol. More information on Ical's case was not disclosed by ICE officials who notably did not mention any violent charges associated with his capture.
