Violence and crime disrupted the peace in Parkland over the weekend, with a shooting and a stolen vehicle chase involving juveniles, according to official reports from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.
On the night of July 18th, residents near Park Ave S and Lafayette St S found their quiet evening shattered by gunfire. A 40-year-old man was shot in a parking lot after being attacked by several people who then fled the scene, reported the Sheriff's Department. Deputies who responded to the scene provided first aid until Fire & Rescue teams could take the victim to a local hospital. Authorities are still searching for the suspects involved in this actively investigated case.
Less than a day later, in the early hours of July 19th, deputies spotted a vehicle speeding at twice the legal limit, its occupants' intentions hidden behind ski masks. Attempting to enforce the law, deputies initiated a stop at the 11100 block of Pacific Ave. S as the car, filled with juveniles, took a turn into a parking lot. The chase came to an end with two young suspects, aged 14 and 15, arrested after a series of foot pursuits, while a third escaped capture. Found carrying tools linked to car theft, the young driver and passenger face charges and were transported to Remann Hall Detention Center.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Department is actively investigating both incidents, working to bring those remaining at large to justice. Community members have been encouraged to come forward with any relevant information, ensuring that those who challenge the law do not go unpunished. The aftermath of these incidents leaves a neighborhood unsettled and a community questioning the audacity of crime in their own backyards.
