Houston residents are gearing up for another week of high temperatures and the potential for thunderstorms by the weekend. According to the National Weather Service, today's forecast includes a slim 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, primarily after 4 pm, amidst a sunny day with the mercury rising near 95 degrees and heat index values peaking at 104. As evenings roll in, Houstonians can expect mostly clear skies with lows hovering around 79 degrees.
The beat of the heat continues with Tuesday and Wednesday predicting highs of a scorching 95 and 96 degrees, respectively. The breathlessness of morning stillness will not offer much respite either—with Wednesday night expected to settle down at a sultry 77 degrees. Meanwhile, FOX 26 Houston cautions residents to watch for intense heat through the middle of the week, with high temperatures expected to flirt with the century mark and no heat advisories yet issued.
Transcending mere discomfort, the latter half of the week teases the possibility of showers and thunderstorms, increasing on Friday. Forecasters are attributing the uptick in precipitation chances to Gulf moisture—accentuated by remnants of a tropical wave from the previous week—that's slated to swell from Thursday into Friday. This moisture infusion amplifies the likelihood of rainfall to 50 percent for the end of the workweek.
In a broad sweep of the skies, the tropics appear to be in a lull with no immediate threats in sight, as the National Hurricane Center confirms the absence of active systems near the region. However, eyes remain fixed on a tropical wave known as "Invest 94L," which currently carries up to a 20 percent chance of development over the next week, but presently no direct threat to the Gulf is anticipated. Though Friday’s incoming moisture has a low chance of developing into a depression, its outcome remains uncertain and will depend on how things unfold over time.
Moving towards the weekend, Houstonians could find solace in partly sunny skies, but the likelihood of being interrupted by showers and thunderstorms persists—a sizable 60 percent on Saturday. The ensuing night might afford some clarity with partly cloudy conditions and a low nearly at 79 degrees. And as Sunday unfurls, a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms intermingles with mostly sunny skies, Houston circling through its carousel of humidity and heat once again.
