After months of investigation following a deadly encounter on a Houston street, law enforcement officials have taken a suspect into custody. The event unfolded earlier this year when gunfire broke out, leaving one man dead. Demetrius Donte Jackson, 20, has been charged with the murder of Adam Broomfield, 33. The Houston Police Department's news release details Jackson's arrest and subsequent charge levied in the 176th State District Court.
On the evening of February 3, 2025, officers received a call about a shooting at 4500 Pershing Street. Responding units found Broomfield shot several times and unresponsive; he ultimately succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital. Initially, the altercation appeared to involve a group of females before spiraling into violence that claimed Broomfield’s life. The suspect, described as a Black male, was said to have fled the scene posthaste, according to the initial investigation.
Through diligent work and investigation spearheaded by Detectives W. Huff and J. Nguyen of the HPD Homicide Division, significant progress was made. They traced the suspect as Jackson, who was arrested by the HPD's Southeast Patrol Division's Crime Suppression Team last Monday. A booking photograph of Jackson has been circulated alongside the news release provided by the Houston Police Department.
