An incident at the Ontario Advanced Surgery Center has sparked controversy after agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained 30-year-old Denis Guillen-Solis, an undocumented man from Honduras. According to KTLA, the altercation occurred when ICE officers, dressed in masks and bulletproof vests, pursued Guillen-Solis into the medical clinic, a move that medical staff deemed as trespassing on private property.
The confrontation, which happened on July 8th, involved clinic staff who confronted the agents and demanded they leave, citing that they were trespassing without a warrant. During the tense exchange captured on video, staff members can be heard telling agents to take their hands off Guillen-Solis as he clung to a doorway. Javier Hernandez of the Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice told CBS News Los Angeles that there was "no warrant out for his arrest" and questioned whether the actions were just targeted because he was working in landscaping.
Contrary to the statements made by clinic staff and immigration rights activists, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) painted a different picture of events. In a statement obtained by Homeland Security X Post, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin claimed that "hospital staff assaulted law enforcement and drug the officer and illegal alien into the facility," and then tried to obstruct the arrest process. According to the DHS, agents were executing a targeted operation to arrest two undocumented individuals when Guillen-Solis fled, sparking the incident at the surgery center.
THE FACTS: ICE officers conducted a targeted enforcement operation to arrest two illegal aliens. Officers in clearly marked ICE bullet proof vests approached the illegal alien targets as they exited a vehicle.

While the DHS alleges that their agents were clearly identified and faced assault by hospital staff, local activists are raising concerns about the aggressive tactics employed by federal law enforcement. Hernandez conveyed these fears to KTLA, stating, "We’re seeing an overreach by the federal government. Every day we are seeing them try new tactics and if we are not pushing back, we are not fighting back, what we are seeing is the end of our democracy." In the wake of the incident, the staff at the Ontario Advanced Surgery Center have not faced any charges for their involvement.
Guillen-Solis, who is now being held at a federal detention center, has become a focal point for local immigration discussions. A CBS News Los Angeles report revealed that Guillen, who has been in America for three years working as a landscaper, was supporting his sick mother back in Honduras. The Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice has been involved in providing support, including setting up a GoFundMe page to assist with legal fees, as Guillen-Solis's family and supporters contend with the aftermath of the detention.
