U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Philadelphia, working with local partners including Homeland Security Investigations Philadelphia, IRS Philadelphia, and ATF Philadelphia, apprehended Silvestre Herrera-Vasquez, a 48-year-old Mexican national, on Monday in Malvern, Pennsylvania. The interagency operation was conducted to arrest Herrera-Vasquez, who had an outstanding warrant for rape in the state, according to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

While maintaining a focus on apprehension, ICE officials have underscored their dedication to community safety. ERO Philadelphia Field Office Director Brian McShane highlighted this commitment, citing interagency collaboration as a crucial element in their law enforcement endeavors. "The arrest of dangerous criminal illegal aliens like Herrera-Vasquez demonstrates ICE’s absolute commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our communities," said McShane in a statement obtained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. "I commend our partner agencies for continuing to collaborate with ERO in finding, arresting and removing these individuals."

Herrera-Vasquez, whose date and time of entry into the United States remain unclear, has had previous encounters with law enforcement under different aliases. He was convicted of retail theft on August 17, 2011, after being arrested by the Philadelphia Police Department on May 15, 2011, under the name "Alex Acosta" and subsequently fined. Life took a darker turn on January 10, 2014, when a warrant for strongarm rape was issued for him by the same department, this time under the alias "Marcos Garcia-Reyes," as reported by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Following his recent arrest, Herrera-Vasquez is slated for expedited removal proceedings and will remain in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody. The public plays an unsung role in law enforcement's efforts to secure safety and uphold the law, being encouraged by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to report crimes or suspicious activity.
