
On Sunday night at Kaʻakaʻaniu Beach, a 26-year-old diver from Kilauea died after being swept away by a strong current. According to the County of Kauai, his companions saw what happened and called for help.
At around 9:20 p.m., a search began involving the Kaua‘i Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard, Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement, and Kaua‘i Police Department’s drone team after a call for help. At about 11:40 p.m., the Coast Guard found the diver unresponsive. Rescue crews tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead after being brought to shore. His name has not been released yet, as reported by the County of Kauai.
A man died at Kaʻakaʻaniu Beach, where there are no lifeguards and strong currents are common. An autopsy is being done, but foul play is not suspected. Officials continue to advise the public to swim at beaches with lifeguards, especially during the summer, as stated by the County of Kauai.
