The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has issued ocean water use warnings for several popular spots. According to the latest reports, certain areas along the coast have shown elevated bacterial levels that could put your health at risk.
Specifically, the warnings target high-traffic locations including Avalon Beach at Catalina Island near the pier, Ramirez Creek by Paradise Cove, The Bel Air Bay Club at Will Rogers State Beach, and the swath of sand by the Santa Monica Pier, just to name a few. If you were planning on splashing around Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey or the Castlerock Storm Drain at Topanga County Beach, think again. Health officials warn against swimming, surfing, or playing in waters where bacteria levels have exceeded what's considered safe, according to the Public Health Advisory.
Some previously cautioned areas have been given the all clear. Topanga Canyon Lagoon at Topanga County Beach or Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro is already open to the public. Recent testing has shown that these spots are back to boasting water quality levels that meet State standards.
Los Angeles County has a beach closure hotline that’s updated with the latest info 24-hours a day; that number is 1-800-525-5662.
