WISN reports that Jeremiah McQuiston, a 46-year-old man from La Valle, succumbed to injuries sustained from a fireworks explosion last Saturday night. Sheriff Chip Meister detailed that McQuiston faced severe trauma to his upper body and a critical injury to his right wrist.
Deputies and bystanders at scene quickly stepped into action to provide critical care in the hopes of saving McQuiston’s life. Despite their efforts, the La Valle man was pronounced dead at the scene, marking a somber aftermath to what should have been a weekend of national pride and joy. The incident sheds light on a concerning upward trend in fireworks-related injuries and fatalities. Data from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission highlighted by JSONLINE indicates that in 2024, the U.S. saw 11 deaths directly connected to fireworks, an increase from the previous year. Furthermore, roughly 14,700 people were injured by fireworks in the same year, suggesting a growing need for increased safety measures and awareness around these devices.
The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office's response was immediate, arriving at the scene on Minicreek Road in the Town of La Valle shortly before 10 p.m., as shared in a post and reported by WMTV15 News.
