A Red Flag Warning is in effect for northern Lincoln County due to low humidity and strong winds, creating critical fire weather conditions. An Extreme Heat Warning has also been issued for southern Mohave County and the Colorado River Valley, where temperatures are expected to rise at least 5 degrees above normal. According to the National Weather Service, "Major HeatRisk will affect anyone without access to effective cooling and/or adequate hydration."
Hot and dry weather will continue through the weekend and into early next week. Southeastern areas may see temperatures closer to normal by Saturday. Wind gusts up to 25 knots are expected at Harry Reid International Airport. The National Weather Service reports: “Passing clouds with bases around 12kft or above are expected through this afternoon, with temperatures exceeding 100F between 17Z-05Z, peaking at 109F around 00Z.” VFR conditions are expected to continue across southern Nevada, northwest Arizona, and southeast California.
Firefighters are on alert in southern Nevada, especially in Lincoln County, where strong winds are expected. The National Weather Service stated, "This low humidity, combined with 15 to 20 mph southwesterly winds gusting up to 30 mph will result in critical fire weather conditions across Nevada Fire Weather Zone 461 today." Winds are forecast to weaken over the weekend, but dry conditions will still bring fire concerns. Residents and officials are advised to watch for fire activity.
