The National Weather Service Las Vegas is forecasting a break from extreme heat later this week, with temperatures expected to fall below average across the region. A "cut-off area of low pressure deepens off the coast of Baja California," bringing increased monsoonal moisture that may lead to flash flooding, gusty outflow winds, and lightning. By Thursday and Friday, temperatures are expected to hover near or slightly below seasonal norms, with a "49% chance that Las Vegas remains below 100F" on Friday, according to the National Weather Service

Thunderstorms are expected to start over eastern Mohave County, with a few also possible in the Spring Mountains and eastern Lincoln County. By Friday, storm activity is expected to increase across southern Nevada. Winds from the south will increase this morning, with gusts around 20 knots. The forecast notes that "winds could also back around to near 160 degrees true, resulting in an easterly component." Flight operations at Harry Reid may be affected. Conditions will remain VFR with "operationally insignificant passing clouds around 12K to 15K feet," as reported by the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service is encouraging spotters in southern Nevada, northwest Arizona, and southeast California to report any significant weather or impacts. Moisture is expected to move eastward under westerly winds heading into the weekend, decreasing the chance of storms and gradually clearing skies.
