An officer from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department found himself on the wrong side of the law this week, facing multiple charges including a DUI. Officer Zachary Louis, affiliated with LVMPD since 2020 and currently assigned to the Community Safety Division of Northwest Area Command, was arrested by Nevada State Police and taken into custody at the Clark County Detention Center, as reported by FOX5 Vegas.
Amidst allegations of speeding more than 40 mph over the limit and reckless driving, Louis is charged with a felony offense for failing to stop for a police officer and seven misdemeanors including driving under the influence, with the added accusation of operating an unregistered vehicle, and driving without proof of insurance. According to his booking records, Louis was released from custody after a court session on Thursday, with the state requesting additional time to file a formal complaint.
Further details on Louis's arrest have yet to be disclosed, and LVMPD has, as standard protocol dictates, placed the officer on paid suspension pending a deeper investigation. The circumstances of his arrest bring to light the continuously blurry line between law enforcers and lawbreakers. News 3 LV noted that Louis faces one felony charge of disobeying a peace officer and several misdemeanors, his next court appearance set for the distant date of November 10.
Although a defense attorney was present at Louis's initial court appearance, they informed News 3 LV that they had not been retained as counsel as of Friday and could not comment on the case.
