Las Vegas' cherished Rainbow Company Youth Theatre is gearing up for a spectacular 50th season, featuring a diverse lineup of shows at the Charleston Heights Arts Center. The City of Las Vegas program announced that they'll bring to stage classics like "Peter and the Starcatcher," "Antigone," and the musical "Starmites," along with a special "Ensemble Showcase: A Play Festival," according to a recent bulletin. With each show offering six performances, audiences young and old can catch the productions over two weekends, including sensory-friendly options complete with American Sign Language interpreters.
The Rainbow Company's strength lies in its ensemble of 35 students, ranging from 10 to 18 years old, who delve into all facets of production under the guidance of professional mentors—think costumes, sets, and even lighting. These auditions, set for early August, are open to community youths who can commit to the program's rigorous schedule from August through May. The ensemble experience is hands-on, and it gives participants a taste of what it’s like to work professionally in theatre, ensemble auditions will be held Aug. 1-2, by appointment, and this message comes from the City of Las Vegas' bulletin.
"Peter and the Starcatcher," a Tony Award-winning play, kicks off the season on September 19th. The prequel to Peter Pan's story follows an orphan's adventure on the high seas, marked by pirates and treasure. Auditions for this play are slated for August 9th, with tickets and audition details available on the Theatre's website. On the other hand, "Antigone," slated for November, reimagines Sophocles's tale of civil disobedience and familial loyalty with performances beginning November 14. And for something a bit more contemporary, "Starmites," a musical journey into the pages of a science-fiction comic book, is sure to engage audiences starting March 6, 2026, while auditions will be open December 12-13.
The season culminates with the "Ensemble Showcase: A Play Festival," an entirely student-driven festival that puts the spotlight on short plays across varied genres, with performances lined up for May 2026. This is where young artists' creativity and direction take center stage, as promised in the City of Las Vegas' announcement. Tickets for the season are reasonably priced, with season passes at $30 and individual show tickets for $10, addressing the financial accessibility for a broader audience. Tickets and more information on auditions can be found at the Rainbow Company's official website, a must-check resource for any local theater enthusiast or aspiring youth performer.
