The Lewisville Police Department has announced the commencement of its 48th Citizen Police Academy session, offering locals a rare opportunity to shadow the men and women in blue. The upcoming Fall Session will begin on August 28 and conclude on November 6, as published in a social media post by the department. Participants are invited to meet every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to delve into the nuanced operations of law enforcement in their community.
Prospective civilians will go hands-on with crime scene investigations, K9 unit demonstrations, and SWAT team tactics, to name a few. The initiative seeks to provide a comprehensive view of the challenging yet crucial work carried out by the police force. According to the Lewisville Police Department, "Our Fall Session of the Citizen Police Academy (CPA) kicks off on August 28 and runs through Nov 6, meeting every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m."
The program is not exclusive; any individual 18 or older who resides, or works, in Lewisville is welcome to apply. However, as space is rather limited, potential applicants are encouraged to act swiftly. This venture not only aims to educate community members on police practices but also to strengthen bonds between the police and the public.
