Big news for the medical community and patients alike, Los Angeles General Medical Center just snagged the coveted Magnet® status, placing it in the top tier of U.S. hospitals for nursing excellence.

In a city chock-full of medical facilities, LA General's latest accolade is a pretty big deal because, you know, less than 10 percent of hospitals across the country get to wave this particular flag of nursing supremacy. The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) doesn't just dole these out like candy, the hospital went through a grueling review process before joining this exclusive club, they evaluated everything from leadership to innovation and apparently, LA General nailed it,  according to a statement released by the County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services.

Chief Nursing Officer Nancy Blake enthused about the Magnet recognition being a testament to the heart and skill of LA General's nurses, saying, “This honor reflects our deep commitment to our patients, our people, and our mission to provide Exceptional Care, Healthy Communities,”—and when you have the Chief Executive Officer of LA General, Jorge Orozco, chime in about how this underlines their commitment to top-notch, equitable care, you start to see this isn't just a plaque on the wall, it's major.

It seems that every nurse and doc on the ground is buzzing about this since it's not everyday a hospital turns into a magnet for sheer awesomeness, Dr. Christina Ghaly, who runs the whole County health department shindig, pitched in her two cents noting, “This recognition reflects the strength of LA General’s values and the power of investing in frontline caregivers.”—It's clear the staff is stoked and particularly proud nurse Jonathan Rivera, Magnet Champion at LA General, told the county, “This recognition isn’t just about nursing—it’s about raising the standard of care for our entire community.”

With over 150,000 patients walking through their doors annually—many from areas that could do with some extra resources—it looks like LA General really is doing its bit to raise the bar on care while sticking to its mission of fostering Exceptional Care and Healthy Communities.
