Robert Paljusevic, 21, of Macomb Township is facing trial over a shooting that took place at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital; he is charged with assault with intent to murder, felony firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon. The incident, which occurred on March 20, led to the hospital going into lockdown and elicited a massive law enforcement response to the threat. Paljusevic was not extended an invitation to a private funeral for the victim's father, which reportedly incited the violence, according to CBS Detroit.
The victim, a 25-year-old coworker of Paljusevic's at Corewell Hospital, was shot twice in the arm and was able to reach the emergency department for assistance following the shooting in the parking garage. During the incident, Paljusevic allegedly fired five shots, some of which struck a nearby vehicle. He then fled the scene, prompting a lockdown of the hospital, a daycare, and nearby schools, as reported by Audacy and CBS Detroit.
Authorities apprehended Paljusevic later the same day at his home in Macomb Township. As the trial approaches, with a court date set for July 8, he remains in the Oakland County Jail. This shooting has been described by the police as a "targeted incident," confirming that there was a specific intent behind Paljusevic's actions on that day.
Further details emerged about the dynamic between the shooter and the victim, "Paljusevic and the victim had met at work and became friends," however, the victim's mother characterized the suspect as possessive over the victim and he was known to have a "Jekyll and Hyde" personality which could sway from easy-going to overreactive and during a previous court appearance, it was revealed that after being excluded from the funeral, Paljusevic ominously warned the victim "to not be surprised if he saw him in public and something happened," as per a FOX 2 Detroit report.
