
A tragic incident occurred on Friday when a man was found unresponsive in Boulder Creek, in the vicinity of 55th to 63rd Street. As reported by the City of Boulder, the man was spotted at around 2:26 p.m., and authorities were immediately alerted. Boulder Fire-Rescue, Boulder Police Department, and additional responders quickly joined forces to conduct a frantic search for the individual. Cutting-edge drone technology was employed by the Boulder Police in an attempt to swiftly locate the man, while Boulder Fire-Rescue’s water rescue team was actively engaged in the search efforts.
The recovery operation took a tense turn as multiple agencies worked in unison to remove the man from the water. He was finally pulled from the creek underpass at 61st Street, a quarter mile north of Valmont Ave, at around 2:48 p.m. Upon rescue, first responders did not hesitate to administer CPR immediately. Despite their efforts, the man was transported to Boulder Community Hospital but sadly succumbed to his condition on the night of July 7. His identity, along with the cause and manner of his death, will be determined by the Boulder County Coroner's Office.
In a display of interagency cooperation, Boulder Fire-Rescue and Boulder Police Department assumed unified command upon their arrival at the scene. The list of responding entities included the Open Space Mountain Parks, Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, and Boulder Rural Fire. Although the Boulder Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, they have indicated that they do not suspect foul play at this time and have assured that there is no ongoing risk to the public.
