Early Sunday morning in Kyle, Texas, a Manor man found himself under arrest after police stopped a van reported stolen at gunpoint, according to authorities. As reported by FOX 7 Austin, Paul Anthony Candanoza, a 31-year-old with a trail of active warrants, is now facing a total of nearly 20 charges following his apprehension by Kyle Police.
The series of events unfolded when a local officer, while on patrol, noticed the erratically driven van nearly caused a mishap around 1:30 a.m. on July 27. An investigation by the officer revealed the van had been reported as stolen to the Austin Police Department after an armed robbery. Despite efforts to initiate a traffic stop, Candanoza engaged in a confrontation with the officers, resisting arrest and escalating to physical assault, "police say" in a statement obtained by FOX San Antonio.
Before the latest incident, Candanoza was sought for one count of second-degree felony robbery and several counts of assault, among other charges. With his run-in with Kyle Police, an additional 13 accusations have compounded his legal woes, including second-degree felony assault on a peace officer, felony possession of a controlled substance, and evading arrest with a vehicle, among other misdemeanors, as confirmed by FOX 7 Austin.
As of July 28, Candanoza resides in the Hays County Jail, carrying a collective bond of $227,000 covering all 18 charges against him. While securing him for the multitude of local charges, the Austin Police Department has been involved and "will continue the investigation into the original armed robbery," according to FOX San Antonio.
