As "Dine LA" Restaurant Week launches, Mayor Karen Bass is actively encouraging Angelenos to step out and support the local food scene. Dine LA, which is set to add flavor to the city from July 25 to August 8, features an impressive roster of 480 restaurants, marking it as the event's highest participation to date. The initiative, produced by the LA Tourism and Convention Board, is a concerted effort to provide a lifeline to local eateries and the hospitality industry at large, as they continue to rebound from a series of setbacks ranging from pandemic aftershocks to disruptive law enforcement raids. The Mayor, along with City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto, illustrated this commitment by patronizing Downtown LA's Maccheroni Republic—a show of solidarity meant to inspire city-wide participation.

"LA has the best restaurants in the world, and many of them are hurting from so many challenges, from the impacts of the reckless raids to the lingering fallout of the pandemic, we must support our neighborhood gems," Mayor Bass stated in her call to action. She further emphasized the strength that comes from unity, a sentiment she hopes will emanate throughout Dine LA. Angelenos have a garage of restaurant options to explore, from 88 neighborhoods and 33 global cuisines, adding to LA's reputation as a global culinary hub.

Stacey Sun, the Executive Director of Dine LA, underscored the event's importance, not just as a culinary celebration, but as a timely gesture of support for the city's food industry artisans who've shown remarkable resilience. "Restaurants across Los Angeles have shown incredible resilience in recent years, and this program offers a meaningful way for locals and visitors alike to show up, dine out and rediscover what makes our dining scene so special," noted Sun.

In addition to championing Dine LA, Mayor Bass has been proactive in facilitating resources for small businesses. Just this May, her office unveiled the Business Navigator, an online resource geared towards helping local entrepreneurs navigate permits and procurement opportunities more efficiently. Last month saw further support with initiatives for Downtown L.A. businesses impacted by federal raids, which included webinars offering business and legal services. These moves align with Bass's earlier efforts, such as personal visits to businesses affected in areas like Boyle Heights and Westlake, where she engaged directly with owners to offer support and hear their stories.

Dine LA, exclusive to dine-in customers, offers a culinary passport to the tastes and talents that knit the fabric of LA's diverse gastronomic landscape. With 80 new restaurants joining the ranks, the program demonstrates the city's expanding appetite for culinary exploration and a communal desire to uplift the pillars of its local economy. As we stand on the cusp of this biannual celebration of flavors, the message from city leadership is clear: break bread with your neighbors, and in doing so, fortify the community that is Los Angeles.
