The Metropolitan Police Department is reaching out to the public for help in identifying a suspect accused of a recent assault in Northeast D.C. The incident, involving a potentially deadly weapon—a tire iron—occurred earlier this month, and details have now been shared to apprehend the individual responsible.
At around 1:48 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025, police were called to the scene at the back of the 1300 block of Florida Avenue NE. There, they found a victim who had been blindsided and struck from behind with the tire iron. DC Fire and EMS had to quickly transport the victim to a local hospital to receive care for injuries that, thankfully, were not life-threatening. To assist fully in the case, law enforcement officials have disclosed surveillance footage and photos of the suspect, hoping that someone will be able to positively identify them.
The MPD's official release contains the video and images of the suspect. In addition to the visual aids, the MPD has announced a reward of up to $10,000. This sum is on the table for anyone who comes forward with information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator(s) of this act, which has been classified as a violent crime within the District of Columbia.
Members of the community who may recognize the suspect are strongly encouraged not to confront or engage with them directly. Instead, they should make sure to safely reach out to the police at (202) 727-9099. Tips can also be sent anonymously via text to 50411. In the collective effort to hold the assailant accountable, community collaboration and a shared sense of justice are the instruments that might just ensure the resolution of this heinous act—and, perhaps, restore a measure of peace to the neighborhood thrown into disquiet.
