Milwaukee's education landscape expanded yesterday with the opening of Literacy Services of Wisconsin’s new adult literacy center at 1737 N. Palmer St. Located in the Brewers Hill neighborhood, the center was launched to address a significant challenge: approximately one-quarter of Milwaukee County residents read at or below a third-grade level.

Recognizing the significance of the occasion and the focus on education, Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs acknowledged the opening of the new center in the Brewers Hill neighborhood. “Access to education and training eliminates barriers that allow people to thrive both personally and professionally,” she told the City of Milwaukee. LSW described the center as a response to a “real need in the community,” with the goal of supporting personal and professional development for those who utilize its services.

Central to the 6th District’s goal of empowering residents, the newly opened literacy center aims to expand access to opportunity. The center, operated by Literacy Services of Wisconsin (LSW), offers adult literacy support, English language learning, and additional programs focused on helping adults improve reading, writing, and English-speaking skills, as well as obtain a high school equivalency diploma.
