As Milwaukee County readies for a festive twist this Fourth of July weekend, explosive tradition makes way for a quieter, albeit still luminous, celebration — a drone light show. WISN reports that the inaugural lakefront spectacle is bankrolled by Milwaukee County, and according to County Executive David Crowley, it's intended to commemorate America's independence in a "new, fresh and modern way."
With a nod to budget consciousness, county officials are quick to point out this new event is $200,000 less than its pyrotechnic predecessor. For those planning to witness this drone dance across the sky, "bring your family, friends, bring your neighbors," Crowley urged in a statement obtained by WISN. But, take note: pricing for parking is at $20 per vehicle, and the designated viewing areas will be at your disposal starting 2 p.m.
Milwaukee’s McKinley Beach is the chosen stage for the aerial display set to kick off around 9:15 p.m. Guy Smith, Executive Director of Milwaukee County Parks explained that the show will unfold in "3 breathtaking waves of drone visuals," each lasting close to 14 minutes for a total runtime of approximately 45 minutes, as mentioned on WISN. Viewers will be treated to synchronized drone formations depicting patriotic themes, and Milwaukee's most treasured landmarks, as revealed in an interview with TMJ4.
Rules have been tweaked for the drone event — no staking, no overnight camping, and leave the booze at home. Food is allowed though, and if you’ve got room for only a few cans of soda and a sandwich, worry not, there will be vendors on site selling refreshments. Portable and accessible restrooms, alongside facilities at the McKinley Marina, will cover the necessities. While you settle in for the show, County Executive David Crowley will set the tone with a welcome and live remarks, The music: "A synchronized soundtrack will accompany the drones," available for download in most viewing areas, adds FOX6Now. And for those fearing clouds might dampen the groundbreaking evening, a makeup date is slotted for Sunday, July 6.
