Yesterday, Milwaukee's cyclists turned out in droves for the annual Bike 4 Friendship event, an inclusive ride that brought the community together to raise funds for the Friendship Circle. The non-profit is dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities and fostering inclusivity. With participants taking part in 30, 60, or 100-mile rides, the event aimed to bridge connections through the universal joy of cycling, while fundraising for a vital local cause.

According to a release by CBS 58, riders needed to contribute a minimum of $360 to join the effort. The event this year sought to rapidly gather $180,000. Their determination shone through, despite not yet hitting the target, with an impressive $139,000 reported by the organizers as of the last update.

The significance of the effort was underscored by the event's wide appeal. "It's a great organization. Levi, who runs the Friendship Circle, did a really good job of talking to us about the importance of what they're doing for the community, and we wanted to be a part of it," Rani Ferrier told WISN. The sentiment of the participants reflected a common thread - a sense of belonging and commitment to the Friendship Circle's mission.

With close to 200 participants riding and many more walking and supporting, the event championed both physical activity and social responsibility. The Friendship Circle, operating out of Fox Point, leverages such events to not only bring awareness but also directly support jobs and programs for young adults living with disabilities. "We wanted an event where everyone could bike. Biking is for everyone. So whether you're skating, scooting, adaptable bikes, it's really about getting everybody out in the community together and rallying to raise money for a really good cause," an organizer explained in an interview with WISN. The auction hosted by the organization will further aim to supplement the funds raised by the event.

"It’s hard to express just how special and empowering Bike4Friendship is. When people come together like this, it shows those living in our community with disabilities and mental health challenges that they matter,” said President of Friendship Circle of Wisconsin Levi Stein, in a statement obtained by CBS 58.
